Wisdom of Winter

Harnessing the Wisdom of Winter

HEY Friend! HEY!

We are down to 30 days before winter is over, and while I won't be sad to see her go, I must take time to appreciate the wisdom and deep reflective season she has offered. Over the past few years, I've opened my mind to the wisdom that each season grants us to foster more alignment and courage when we optimize cycles of transformation. This past winter has been especially fruitful for inner growth. One thing I'm deeply grateful for is the darkness that winter offers.

The Upgrade of Slowing Down

While the added hours of darkness can feel inconvenient because we are generally more tired, I am thankful for this natural signal for more rest. During the last few months, I've surrendered to my body's need for more rest. And this rest came in various ways, from going to bed earlier, taking time for a 30-minute bath with candles and meditation each week, and scheduling more time to do the slower activities that build deeper connection with my family like baking, puzzles, and nostalgic movies (and some good documentaries too, lol)

How You Can Celebrate the Slow Down: Give yourself a challenge to navigate your days more slowly. Look at your to-do list and really interrogate what is absolutely necessary and what can be delegated or released. In the added moments of life, give yourself permission to do more restorative practices like cultivating a skincare routine, coloring, doing a puzzle, or having a sip and chat session with your favorites (Or absolutely NOTHING AT ALL!) We have all year to go fast; winter is our season to celebrate the slow.

Embracing the Strength of Shadow

Another favorite I've experienced during this winter season is deep diving into shadow work! Big shout-out to Boudoir Photographer Latoya Dixon Smith of Greenville Boudoir and The Rebelle Coaching Program! She is a whole vibe, and the way that she holds space for community and cultivating inner truth, awakening the brilliance of our shadow, and truly learning to see and love your story is AMAZING! The way that I've been able to accept myself, forgive, and begin to forge new pathways in alignment! Wheeww! Big gratitude!

So often, we see motivational media that encourages being your best and keep pushing, creating new things, and moving from the past. While all that is good and great, slowing down enough to reflect, learn, and garner wisdom from the unpretty parts of our past in such a way that lightens our heart, widens our courage, and grounds us in unshakeable inner peace, is a level of self development that can only come from inside you and catapults your level of inner knowing and being your most authentic self UNAPOLOGETICALLY. When we accept the challenging parts of ourselves, we learn to maneuver life with more trust and peace.

How You Can Celebrate the Shadow: Schedule time for shadow work. You can begin by finding journal prompts, using chatgpt, and bonus points if you use the wisdom of Astrology to fine-tune your prompts. Joining a coaching program or starting therapy are also amazing ways to dig deeper and feel held and grounded with support. On a physical note, leaning into sensual dance, free writing, Quoya, and doing guided meditations for your Dark Feminine are other great ways to support this inner work and be prepared for a full blossom come springtime!

Holistically Hibernate

So many animals hibernate during the winter, and the ones that don't generally take a slower approach during this season. Hibernating supports sustainability in seasons that have fewer resources, slowing down our activities and calming our nervous system, allowing us to come out of the season feeling rested, nourished, and revived. While we won't be sleeping all winter, taking time to be slow and concentrate on automating certain aspects of our lives like scheduling, shopping, meal planning, etc. cultivates a living ecosystem that supports optimal rest. Eating foods that are nourishing and warm that elevate comfort and strengthen the body are strongly encouraged. Being in community with people who make you feel alive, loved, and celebrated nourishes the heart and restores the soul!

Alongside the rhythms of routines of hibernation, we also have a beautiful opportunity to clear the space. Decluttering, cleaning our homes, and getting rid of items we have that don't support our vitality or that of our enviornment elevates the vibration of our surroundings, which directly impacts our mood, mindset, and actions.

How to Holistically Hibernate: Prioritize rest, gentle movement (like yin yoga), warm foods, and deep hydration. Let winter be a time of soul-deep replenishment. Let go of toxic relationships, outdated habits, or limiting beliefs. You can even create a practice or ceremony to support this—write down what you’re releasing and toss it in the bon fire or write down ways that you're proud of yourself and place them in a jar to reflect on when you are at a low point.

Maximizing the Last 30 Days of Winter

Here are a few ideas on making the most of these last 30 days of Winter! Take what aligns and leave the rest! Take a friend along for support and community, and make the remaining days of winter wonderful for your mind, body, and soul.

1. Deepen Your Spirit-Led Practices

Take advantage of this slower energy to commit to daily spiritual practices—morning meditation, affirmation or oracle cards, dream journaling, and prayer.

2. Complete Unfinished Business

Tie up loose ends—whether it’s a personal project, emotional healing, or a decision you’ve been avoiding. Spring is a time for new beginnings, so clear the way. Make space for your blessings boo!

3. Declutter & Energetically Reset

Organize your space, cleanse your home with smoke or sound, pray over your home and donate anything that no longer aligns with your energy.

4. Set Intentions for Spring

Use this time to create a vision for what you want to step into. Visualize the next chapter, create a mood board, or set clear, aligned goals.

5. Embrace Slowness & Savor the Moment

Rather than rushing toward spring, sink into the present. Enjoy cozy rhythms and routines—tea time, warm baths, or reflective walks in nature. Let winter’s wisdom settle into your bones.

Winter is not just a season but a profound teacher of patience, surrender, and preparation. By leaning into these last 30 days with intention, you create a fertile foundation for the rebirth and expansion that spring promises.
