Photography: A Physical Affirmation

Confidence, Grace, Magnetism, the art of vulnerability exercised as boldness. Evolving on camera is a physical affirmation. Who you've been. Who you are. Who you will be.
In our modern-day experience, these powerful and positive attributes don't just arrive. They are a practice, fumbled through, fought for, and gradually felt keenly enough to influence our inner and outer world.
As a photographer who is also a wellness coach, yoga teacher, and dabbles in all things mindset and energy, I see firsthand the distance that too many of us experience, away from the feeling of being beautiful.
Affirmations became a the "talk of the ton" throughout the last two decades, reframing the brain and helping many undo the negative and unproductive programming provided in previous seasons of our lives and while so many of us have benefited from the practice, I can see the shift that we felt in our minds, yet it was often times missing in our physical body. Creating congruence of the mind and body is where the magic happens...and it's called
Embodiment.

The way our fingers curl, how our lips soften, and the jaw relaxes, while the eyes lock in effortlessly, speaking 1000 words in silence. This kind of affirmation is felt, it's seen, it's experience. Affirming the wisdom and love in the mind through the body.
What calls me back to photography after every session is being able to witness this transcending experience of embodiment on camera.
Often times clients arrive, nervous, unsure, and disconnected with their body but through connection, belief, a little guidance and deep breaths, they find these magical moments of surrender that blossom into the most beautiful physical affirmation.
Photography reminds us of who we've been, and gives the opportunity to practice the embodiment of who we are becoming. I've had countless sessions with clients that have a deep desire to shed a version, honor a version, or birth a new version of themselves. Sometimes that is experienced as tears, deep laughter, or flickering fire in the eyes.
And this sacred and natural process of becoming can be lovingly unfolded through photography. When affirmations of "I love myself," "I am," and "peace resides within me" evolve from a thought, to a spoken vibration, to a lived experience, our reality begins to shift, our world begins to change. We are shifting the physical world by changing ourselves and how we interact with it.

Audacity is (affirmation + alignment) x action.
Having to connect slowly and deeply enough with our breath and body to freely explore angles, the languageof the body, and visual connection that ignites feeling and communicates viscerally, changes us.
While it highlights how we've existed misaligned it also presents exquisite possibility and draws out audacity, making a way for our most unfiltered selves; wild, raw, beautiful presence.
Thankful for this gift and opportunity to witness people unfold into the most beautiful and radiant physical affirmation of love.
with so much love, light, and joy,
Janeen
